Define Forever...

“Do you want to know the definition of forever?” Pete asked. I looked up at him and met his gaze with questioning eyes as I nodded my head. “Forever...” he proceeded to say in a somber tone, “...is a very long time.” The words came profound and hung in the air. It had been a hard week. We had been at our wits end with each other. To regroup and reconnect, we went to our place of peace. As we sat there on the bench and those words suspended in the air it seemed as if everything came into focus with that one simple statement of truth.

We both burst out laughing. Our laughter came, not as a funny “haha”, rather as a release, like the valve on a pressure cooker after pressure has been mounting to cook its contents.  We were done with our quarrels. Our lives and purpose together came back into perspective with that one simple statement. We found our peace. We had reconnected.

Yesterday, we celebrated 30 years. Even though Pete’s gone, we still have forever.

I later wrote and hung this note on my wall as a reminder to me of that perspective gained...

My Relationship with Peter the Great is about...

Forever

Forever Joyful

Forever Loving

Forever Devoted

Forever Unconditional

Forever
